When I started working for my company, they had a lot of website modifications that made it difficult to update the website theme/template. If there was some kind of way to update theme files without losing previous modifications, that would be very helpful for my team.
When previously using Magento, it was very time consuming to regularly apply and stay up-to-date with security patches and platform updates. BigCommerce hosts and updates the core website files so that is one less thing that we have to worry about. The eCommerce features satisfy our needs as a retailer.

I wish I could email someone at support rather than having to go to their website to use their support form or call in. I'd rather deal with someone every time I need to.
BigCommerce does a lot for us in addition to a storefront. or instance, it can manage our omni channel orders (Amazon, eBay, etc), manage orders, and we even use it for blogging and content management.

We needed an all-in-one ecommerce platform that can grow with our business and fulfill many of our needs both on the website, and behind the scenes. BigCommerce was the platform that best suited our needs and looking forward, will be a good match for years to come.

Customization is possible but comes at a cost when one has to build a unique integration or s set of business rules. However, for most use cases, there are plenty of apps and extensions available through the BC marketplace. They cover a broad range of B2B and B2C functionality and integrations with the most popular eCommerce products and services, such as marketplaces, payment gateways, shipping and financing methods, tax services, personalization engines, and others.
BigCommerce works in both end-to-end as well as headless deployment options; we have implemented both quite effectively.
