Jay Hornback was a great rep. and very polite and knowledgable.
Nothing at the moment, love what I've seen.
Mostly problems involving manufacturing travelers. Have an IIS app is way better than a local application.
We have been using Vinyl to build modern interfaces to a backend database built on SQL. We have been building new "modules" of our platform using Vinyl, and partnering with the team has been nothing short of amazing. The technical resources are knowledgeable, communicate well, turn around functionality in a short time, and have been able to deliver value in weeks. We are also able to view and report on our backend data in ways we have never been able to in the past. I would highly recommend this product and the team to others looking to modernize software, improve business processes, and create new views into data and business insights.
The current Zudy/Vinyl website doesn't do a good job of showcasing capabilities. I would recommend updating it to showcase more case studies and an overview of platform offerings.
Building modern interfaces for our home-grown software. Creating business processes to augment collection of data for our Finance and Corporate Operations functions. Reporting across multiple platforms through the Vinyl solution.
The flexibility is very appealing. Having the ability to change UI with just a couple of keystrokes is fantastic. Also, having the ability to add/delete, and rearrange the data display quickly is a real game-changer for us.
I don't have enough time to increase my understanding of what the total potential is for this platform
Using Vinyl as a portal for operational data entry/collection. We do not currently have an MES in place. We feel that this has the potential to bridge that gap.
The tools and knowledge base available for learning Vinyl is quite extensive. Tutorials are well thought out and run you through real world application development.
Vinyl is a powerful platform, but I would recommend that you have some background in application development. Some tutorials on basic dev would be beneficial.
We are using Vinyl to develop a suite of standardized data collection and reporting tools across our company. Productivity, as well as data accuracy, has improved by having standardized interfaces over a common database.
I was able to pick up Vinyl without much prior coding experience and create my first useful app in a month. The tutorial for beginners goes over an excellent baseline of the basics you need to learn, and there is lots of documentation and a broad community that helps you improve.
The interfacing between the data and the website was never really clear to me.
I am using data to streamline the auditing process. For example, I am making audits more efficient than using spreadsheets by autofilling repetitive fields and making the UI more ergonomic. I also use it to make aesthetic charts.
What makes Vinyl unique is that while it is quite simple to use, only requiring a basic understanding of HTML and CSS to get started, it is very powerful. It allows almost complete customization of the user-facing content while seamlessly maintaining the back-end. This tool is fantastic for small teams, enabling team members to, in effect, become full-stack developers without diminishing the end product.
The main downside to Vinyl is the steep learning curve for some of the more advanced features. While many of the basics are covered in the built-in LMS and are well documented in the wiki, some of the more advanced features are lacking in proper documentation. That said, their support team is very responsive and can always find a fix, even if it means pushing out a hotfix for only one person.
My business is a growing Software as a Service company, developing software for first responders; our current focus is on emergency medical services, but we are expanding to the fire service in the future. Vinyl is allowing us to rapidly build out an application and get it into the hands of the people that need it, even with our lack of authentic coding experience. While our team has plenty of HTML and CSS knowledge, we lack in the languages that would be needed to build a standalone solution without a low-code solution like Vinyl.
Vinyl helps quickly design, build application with multiple datasource. Application work bench to build and maintain the application Quickly design, build application with multiple data source, Development of UI like Page Layout, Functionality and Menu Navigation. Defining the business rules and stage data to be displayed in UI. Aggregated objects for chart panels. Advance setting values for cmplex scenarios. Data modelling is very simpler. Docker deployment Code generatated in .net core MVC
More than dislikes, these are my suggestions. Not so excellent Front end multi-experience support. Need to support AR and VR. Hyper automatation support is not there. Advanced UI features like Maps support. Mobile Application development can be improvised. Testing automation and test case management can be integrated. Application development management like Microsoft Project, Agile or Jira can be supported ads par tof application workbench.
I was able to build an internal employee and HR management system very quickly. Benefits. Vinyl helps quickly design, build application with multiple datasource. Application work bench to build and maintain the application Able to build applications very quickly. Build UI layer, Business logic layer and Data modelling can be built in no time with Vinyl Ease of use
As someone with previous SQL experience but no direct programming experience, Vinyl took some time to get used to but now feels like second nature. The beginner training provided by Zudy gave us a solid conceptual foundation of how Vinyl works and got us kickstarted with our project early. The learning curve was pretty linear, so even a basic working knowledge of Vinyl enabled us to start meaningful development work on our project. Essentially every time we've asked ourselves "I wonder if Vinyl can do X?", we've discovered the answer is "Yes!". Connecting to external data sources via API has allowed us to integrate and automate many of our business processes that were previously manual. We have a lot of control over our UI, user base/security, and the ability to build complex reports for our clients - all of which is unavailable with our preexisting software solution. Far and away my favorite part of working with Zudy is their outstanding support. Our consultants at Zudy are unfailingly knowledgeable and helpful, and have immensely contributed to the success of our project. I love the fact that Vinyl is adding new features and capabilities all the time, so we will be able to continuously improve our application and benefit our clients by taking advantage of those features.
The written documentation/knowledge base for Vinyl exists but it a little difficult to sift through. Since our Zudy counterparts are so responsive, this tends to not be a direct issue because we always get the answer or solution we are looking for from them, but they could spare their people some time by having documentation easier to search through.
Vinyl has made it much more efficient for us to perform extract/transform/load processes on external data. Setting up parsing rules for a new data source is much faster than our previous software solution. We are always expanding the data we synthesize for our clients, so this provides a continuous benefit. In addition, our Vinyl app will enable our organization to provide new product offerings to our clients because we can continuously develop new functionality within our apps and scale up our user base very easily.
Visualization (board view) for page development is quite intuitive
Some views should be easier to default based on the underlying data model (more model driven UI would be good)
Rapid prototyping of a new product
It's hard to choose as there are so many things I like. Chief amongst them though is the pace with which we can move from concept to working application, then iterate, iterate, iterate with our clients....whether we are creating a standalone application, or plugging in to an existing workflow that cuts across multiple systems, VINYL has our back. It's not quite Childs play but with Zudy VINYL it's heading in that direction. After 30 years of working in IT I can think of 100s of projects that would have delivered better outcomes if I'd had VINYL
I'm really looking forward to my mobile apps being able to work in offline mode.
Digital transformation - using VINYL as part of a flexible transition plan, but also building custom applications that deliver efficiency where legacy ERP or inflexible SaaS tools don't have the features needed to deliver organisational efficiency. In terms of benefits, we build applications at pace and can react in realtime to our clients ideas / needs. Our clients end to end processes are now joined up (no more playing pass the spreadsheet), and they have access to actionable management information in-process, directly in VINYL
